Three Tracks 24.11.22
Here are your three tracks this week. If you haven’t already, subscribe here.
#1: Born Fighters - Cheques at Sundown
I love a little bit of sun-kissed power-pop, and London/LA duo Born Fighters have delivered an absolute doozy with their delightfully breezy new cut ‘Cheques at Sundown’. There’s certainly a timelessness to it – I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if its natural habitat was the tape deck of a 1970s Eldorado Convertible – but it still possesses an acerbic lyrical bite to offset the sweetness. The most glorious three and a half minutes you’ll listen to all week… (RM)

#2: Meryl Streek - Death to the Landlord
Venn Records have got a proper ear for a fucking decent band like, bringing you the likes of Bob Vylan, Witch Fever and High Vis in the past few years alone. Newie, Meryl Streek is yet another excellent addition to their roster. This Irish producer takes punk to its genre hopping, outer reaches dropping it in a vitriolic political maelstrom that punches at the gut but pulls at the heart. His new album ‘796’ is out now. (DO)

#3: Babeheaven - Make Me Wanna
West London duo Babeheaven have described their sound as “post-rave music”: soulful, trip-hop songs for the early-morning wind-down. Think Massive Attack, Air, perhaps an optimistic Portishead and you won’t be far away. ‘Make Me Wanna’ is the highlight from their second album, a gorgeous, swelling ballad featuring a turn by rapper/producer Navy Blue.
